So we can officially start counting down to ARISE fashion week, yay! For you guys who don’t know, ARISE is a London-based magazine, the first global style and culture magazine to celebrate African achievement in fashion and arts. It organises fashion shows in various parts of the world to promote African fashion designers and to earn them the respect and recognition they deserve on the world stage.
These shows have held in New York, Johannesburg, Paris etc, but this season it’s holding here in Lagos, Nigeria. Yep! our very own fashion capital of Africa...I dare say. The ARISE fashion week is from 10th- 13th of this month (at Federal Palace Hotel) which is a perfect completion to the world’s global fashion weeks i.e. New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks.
About 50 designers all over Africa will be showing or presenting their Fall 2011 collection. While these designers have not been officially announced yet, I do expect to see the ‘big sharks’ of fashion like David Tlale, Jewel by Lisa, Christie Brown, Deola Sagoe, Tiffany Amber, Loin Cloth & Ashes and others present during this week.
I’m also looking forward to see my stylista sisters and brothers, attending the fashion shows, display what their wardrobes are made of. I’m guessing it’s a time to go all out and crazy, rules can be ignored for these few days. However, I dread to see ladies coming out in their ‘Sunday-finest gowns’ or their ‘prom ball gowns’.
I promise to keep you guys informed and updated (as much as I can) on every bit of it- who’s hot and who’s not, who fizzles and who sizzles, what’s rad and what’s bad.
