Spring 2013: Alert! Alert!!

It's been a while as usual, but pardon my silence. I've been busy with work, yep work. Something that has to do with fashion (what else), advising and retail...oh and mobile. Hopefully I'll give more details soon...*fingers crossed*

Fashion weeks ended some days ago, and thanks to Style.com and internet (how did we ever cope without both before), the runway of our beloved designers were opened to us all. Like I always try to do (I do try), I made a few notes of some trends. Some of which are new, while others have been trending for a while:

MONOCHROME

Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, Diane Von Furstenberg, Balmain

MIDRIFF BARING

Miu Miu, Versace, John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood

The midriff-baring trended last spring, it's good to see it's still hanging around, and even more...as the belly button is no longer hidden. More is better, no?

STRIPES, STRIPES...MORE STRIPES

Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Oscar de la Renta

All manner of stripes were on the runway: fat, skinny, curvy, straight...Oh Marc Jacobs made a paradise of it.

PRETTY RUFFLES

Gucci, Balenciaga, Prabal Gurung, Givenchy

It's definitely the season for ruffles. I'm not sure I'm the ruffles-indulging type, but Balenciaga made it pretty cool though.

And finally:

WHITE AND PURE

Alexander Wang, Valentino, Blumarine, Jil Sander

This has been going on for some seasons now. I did a thesis on this a long while back, about how the environment and its people are yearning more and more for purity and clarity and cleanness...and not just in fashion. All-white is here to stay for some longy-long time.

Fall 2012- Chain Reaction

I have no idea what exactly this post title, that is "chain reaction", means but I think it sounds right and appropriate. Like some of you guys who follow my Facebook page know, I paid a little attention to the fashion weeks for fall 2012 that ended earlier this month. While I shared some of the looks that interested me on Facebook, I never got to share my tiny little observations. So here they are now.

On the runway of our beloved designers, a few styles, silhouettes, colors, inspirations, blah and blah connected hence forming what can be said to be trends:

Lanvin; Jason Wu; Proenza Schouler.

There was a substantial dosage of Brocade in many collections.

Gucci; Prada; Jean Paul Gaultier.

The dark side was visited by many designers, with Gothic looks.

Mary Katrantzou; Comme des Garcons; Stella McCartney.

Blue is definitely the color of this season, but not just any blue, it's the Klein blue. Note, not electric but Klein blue...I was quickly corrected by my professor when I called it electric (haha).

Proenza Schouler; Jason Wu; Damir Doma.

Many designers headed to the East for inspiration. A lot of looks could be said to be Asian...almost as if these designers were buttering up the Asians. Smart, you say, as they are the ones with the mostest...

And lastly

Alexander McQueen; Mary Katrantzou; Balenciaga.

There was this spacey, futuristic, hi-tech, sci-fi, I-dont-have-a-word-for-it thing going on. Designers definitely looked into the future, but presented it this time without the coldness and starkness usually associated with it.

Oh well, this is what I think so far. I hope to have more thoughts to share with you guys later.

Sneaky snake...

I stayed in all day yesterday, dint even step out for a second. Watched Grey's Anatomy and soaked my pillow...I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who cries when watching Grey's Anatomy. I was tempted to stay in today as well but knew I had to get out and get some things done...some serious things, just so you know.
This scarf was a motivator, the thought of wearing it got me up and dressing. I wouldn't say I'm a snake-skin-print girl but it's a buzz this season, and when fashion authorities like Prada and co dictate snake print, who are we to say no...

So I figured I'd do it my own way with this scarf, it's snake print plus it's deep-red (which is this season's colour for accessory), striking I'd say.

What I'm wearing: Tom Ford glasses; H&M dress and cardi; New look tights; Zara ballerinas; Vintage belt; and Snake scarf (bought at a boutique on rue Rivoli)

What's Hot?

70’s inspired wide-legged trousers...yep. High-waisted? Draped?...even better. You can call them Palazzo pants, but I call them the Diva trousers- a super hybrid that cut across your average maxi skirt and trousers.

These leggy lovelies are finding their way into our wardrobes...they are definitely creeping into my heart, and giving the Skinnies a run for their money.

How to wear them?...wear them in prints or block colours, lightweight or extra flare, flat-fronted or pleated...however you choose to wear them, stay cool in them with the right amount of attitude ;)
